Nigerian R&B singer and Mavin signee, Johnny Drille links up with his fellow vocalist, songwriter, and YBNL superstar Fireboy DML to release 'Angelina'. 'Angelina' is the lead single for Johnny Drille's forthcoming album — "Before The Morning Light". The record is nowhere close to a herculean task as the duo take to what they do best and breathe life into the same euphoric atmosphere.
Produced by Blaisebeatz, the mid-tempo instrumental leans heavily into Afrobeats and R&B. The bass guitar by the intro evokes a strong emotion while the keys dilute it as it progresses onwards. The trumpet and other elements add flavour to the piece.
The track runs for three minutes and sees Fireboy elevating the second verse on par with Johnny Drille in the chorus and pre-hook. He delivers his verse in his usual soulful yet childlike tone, while Johnny creates 'Eggovin', a fictional, endearing character; he sings in his lyric, I'm fortunate to dey dey for your midnight thoughts, Eggovin Angelina.
He complements the significance of the fictional character with the follow up line, Nobody wey see you wey no dey fall like crop, My beautiful ballerina.
While the duo had their best in expressing romance, their voices were almost difficult to differentiate. 'Angelina' will pass for a Saturday wedding evening groove.
