Image
Tems ' Love Is A Kingdom Review Love Is A Kingdom Cover Art By Roy OC Chukwu Grammy Award-winning singer, record producer, and songwriter Temilade Openiyi , also known as Tems , released a new Extended Play titled ' Love is a Kingdom'. She complements the instrumental with her flow on this 7-track EP that lasts for 20 minutes. Her songwriting on " Love Is A Kingdom " stands out among her previous projects. On " First ",  she delves into a rebellious theme, reminding herself of her individuality. As she self-produced "First", the track remains a danceable tune. The continuous piano sound gave it a melancholic output. After putting herself before anyone else on 'First', Tems develops the emotional doubt theme on " I'm Not Sure ". Produced by Jonah Christian and Rob Bisel , she layered her message like a bricklayer— as her verses and chorus are dependent on each other. The fast tempo beat elevates the mood of the ...

Image
"Nnamochie": A Soulful Tribute to African Heritage Nnamochie cover art Fast-rising Nigerian rapper and songwriter, Cedozy , also known as ' Cedozy D Trapa ', has released a new single titled " Nnamochie ". " Nnamochie " is an Igbo word that literally means "my grandfather". In this piece, he takes listeners on a journey through history, touching on the slave trade, colonialism, and the emergence of religion. He uses this song to appeal to every Black person to learn about their history. The soft tempo rap beat produced by Odg Beatz complements the poetic lyrics, which commemorate the transatlantic slavery era. Cedozy's cadence and tone convey a deeper message of pain. On the chorus, he calls out to his grandfather, expressing distress, fear, and abandonment, evoking a melancholic emotional response from listeners. This heartfelt piece speaks to the Black experience, particularly for Igbos who understand the language and culture. ...

No Cake, No Party: How a Near-Death Experience Changed Her Birthday Forever.

Image
Amina and Bolu  Amina lay still, the bruises on her skin darker than any filter could ever make them beautiful. Today was her birthday. Bolu sat beside the bed, clutching a gift she suddenly felt embarrassed to give. “Birthdays used to mean noise,” Amina said quietly. “Cake. Money alerts. ‘Repost my pictures or you don’t love me.’ I was that person.”  Bolu swallowed.  “No celebration this year?”  Amina’s eyes moved to the ceiling.  “Five people died in that accident. Only two of us survived. You think I want a party?" she paused, breathing through the pain. “All I want today is to call my mother. Text my siblings. Send the little money left in my account to the nurse who bathed me when I couldn’t move. Tell everyone who ever made me laugh that they were the real gift,”  Amina turned her head slowly and said. “Bolu, please give me my phone.” B olu unplugged it and handed it over. “Happy birthday to me,” Amina whispered, already scrolling through her contacts...

Beat Around The Bush Review

Image
By Roy OC Chukwu  Nigerian iconic singer and comic rapper, Magnito Freshout teams up with Nigerian social media sensation, Portable to dish out a new single — "Beat Around the Bush".  Beat Around The Bush Review  "Beat Around the Bush", a slow-tempo dancehall genre , produced by Tony Ross had Magnito and Portable ride on the wave distinctively; with Magnito taking the verse and refrain while Portable came with the hook. On the hook, Portable employs a monotonous melody as he lays the foundation for the theme while Magnito, on his rhyming scheme shines on the first verse in the track.  Magnito on the second verse in his lyrics made reference to ' Sample Ekwe ' Crooner, Original Stereoman Ekwe even as the mixing engineer makes this more prominent towards the end of the mix, while the entire vocals of Portable were left almost untouched making his raw energy sometimes overshadowing the piece's subtlety. Magnito also made the reference to Ekwe even in th...

Reverse Psychology Mixtape Review

Image
By Roy OC Chukwu Kano Rapper, Emmy Flexy who came to limelight in the City and is majorly known for freestyle rapping since the early 2020 s has come back  into the streaming epoch with " Reverse Psychology Mixtape ". A mixtape straight from his heart and crafted in his style. Over the years, Emmy Flexy has gotten more features than singles. This might have been hurtful for him as an all-round artist because his audience might have thought his brand is all about freestyling in events. Hence, this mixtape was well-thought of by his team to give his brand a full artistry of a musician. "Reverse Psychology Mixtape" , an intriguing title for the mixtape, one would think was all about depths and explaining a complex concept in the first glance. Yet, nothing in the two-track mixtape hung around the theme or any of the likes of it to buttress the title concept. Emmy Flexy uses this title to push out two singles still. ' Away ', the first track began with a ...
