Flavour, Phyno & Yung Alpha Team Up on Infectious “BILLINGS” with Legendary Osondi Owendi Sample

Yung Alpha Links Flavour & Phyno on Highlife-Sampled Afropop Banger “BILLINGS"

Yung Alpha

Grammy-nominated producer and songwriter Yung Alpha teams up with Flavour and Phyno in a track he titled 'BILLINGS'. The collaboration was thought to be a lead single for his 'FREEWAY' EP because of how unique and infectious it feels.

The track cleverly infuses the popular and legendary Igbo singer's tune – 'Osondi Owendi' by Chief Stephen Osita Osadebe, which gives it a fresh, standout twist. 'BILLINGS' features the two Eastern icons — Flavour and Phyno — both proud sons of the Igbo nation who have celebrated their customs and culture across the globe for decades. This is the kind of move that gives the record an undeniable cultural authenticity and an unspoken prestige which gets their audience salivating and glued to the track.

Like his other releases, the fast-tempo instrumental was produced by Yung Alpha himself who has been producing for almost two decades. A rolling bass guitar lays the foundation where every other element is built upon. The track leans heavily on Afropop-style percussions and Amapiano synths, while the trumpet and keys add a light highlife flavour which carries the interlude.

Yung Alpha's verse reflects on the daily activities he faces. This layers the thematic foundation for Flavour's verse while complementing Yung Alpha's. Midway through Flavour's verse, he sings about affluence as he boasts. Yung Alpha shifts into the love theme for the third verse while Phyno enters with his rap to break the melodic monotony established by the singers. He focuses on elevation, motivation, and lived experience while calling for a period for rest. In just three minutes, the danceable track tells an entire story as it elevates the listener's mood.

'BILLINGS' makes for the perfect weekend groove after a hectic week at work with a romantic lover, colleague, or friend. However, numerous sonic textures were explored in the record, leaving music listeners and enthusiasts wondering exactly what genre it belongs to.
